I’m a proud West Virginian who has spent many years traveling the globe only to discover how passionate I am about my home. I use anthropology to frame research around coal extraction in Appalachia: through studying political, economic, and historical factors, we can better understand the effects of the coal industry on the people and environment of Appalachia as well as how those people are standing up for themselves against major corporate and governmental power.
